Hi! My name is Naomi. I am
currently a junior. I enjoy biking, drawing, and reading. Last year was my first
year participating in National History day. My project was an individual
documentary and I ended up going to nationals, which was a really wonderful
experience.
Working on NHD
last year was quite challenging for me because I had never done so much research
on one topic. I started the process around this time last year and did the
majority of the research from October to early December. Through my research I
came into touch with scientists and professors from around the country. I even
spoke with a Nobel Prize winner. Doing research and working on the project were
really interesting, but I also faced many challenges. From districts to
Nationals, I had multiple software malfunctions, and spent many late nights
wishing I had updated my bibliography as I did research and not at the last
minute. Despite all this I would defiantly count NHD as a highlight of last
year. It was a challenge, but I think it was defiantly worth it.
As a result, I now know how to research thing effectively and I have much better
time management skills than I did at the start of sophomore year. In addition
each level of competition was a blast. I learned a lot from other student’s
projects and met many interesting people who I would not have come into contact
with otherwise.
This year I will be
participating in NHD for a second time in the same category as last year. As I
go through the process of making my project I will periodically blog about the
steps I am taking to do research, things that I learn, and other topics that
relate to NHD. Thanks for reading!
