Introducing Guest Bloggers

This year I have enlisted the help of some guest bloggers. Helping me and hopefully you out will be teachers and students participating in History Day this year. The teachers will give their insights on incorporating the program into your classroom and other tips or thoughts they have. The students will be chronicling their journey through History Day from thoughts on picking topics to cool stuff they find while researching. The goal is to present the program through multiple perspectives and that you'll learn even more through the different bloggers.

So let me introduce to you our first guest blogger for the year who will be giving her thoughts and tips each month:

My name is Michelle Coleman.

I have been teaching for 26 years, mostly in Columbus City Schools.

Four years ago, Ohio History Day received a grant to help Columbus City Schools to implement History Day. I applied and was helped. My students were freshmen. No one in any of my classes had ever done a NHD project before, including myself.

Through OHS, I took a workshop and had lots of help during the whole process. I even had one student go to state.

I then had the same students as 10th graders. It was so much easier the second year with the same group of students. The mistakes I made the first year, helped me the second year. What I found in the second year was students were focused on NHD. I believe that the GREAT OGT scores that students received were because of History Day projects.

Then I transferred schools. Last year I had all seniors. I decided to do a NHD project as their final capstone project. It was a tremendous success. So here I am going into my fourth year with NHD projects. If you have questions please e-mail me:
