Preliminary Research Tips and Suggestions
Good afternoon History Day students! Sorry it has taken so long to post again but here in the History Day office we have been busy busy busy! We are out visiting your classrooms and putting on workshops for your teachers we have been seemingly on a non-stop tour of Ohio!
O.k. lets talk about your preliminary research. Obviously the first step to preliminary research is choosing a topic. Once you have a topic or two in mind start conducting some simple research on that topic(s), type it into Google or do a quick search at your school or local library. The preliminary research is just to see whats out there and if you will have enough information to complete a project. Once you see where your topic is going try to narrow it down if you haven't already done so and take it from there. Start generating a list of possible sources while searching about your topic, if it is Ohio related try searching for it in the Online Catalog for the Ohio Historical Society's Library and Archives by clicking on the link at the top of the home page www.ohiohistory.org
Remember if you've got questions, the History Day Expert has answers! e-mail your questions to historyday@ohiohistory.org
